Seeing in the Dark: Scorpio New Moon and the Rising Phoenix
November 9, 2026 | 16°53′ Scorpio
Checking in with everyone. How are your hearts? Your nervous systems? Your relationships? Has life been putting you through the wringer lately? Have you found yourself confronting old wounds, uncomfortable truths, or parts of yourself you thought you were done with??
From what I’m hearing and witnessing, this Venus retrograde journey has been particularly brutal for many. We’ve been traversing the underworld for weeks now, meeting our dragons, wrestling with our demons, and confronting the distortions that have quietly shaped our perceptions of love, security, and even ourselves.
And yet, something remarkable happens when we spend enough time in the darkness. Our eyes begin to adjust. We start seeing things we simply couldn’t see before.
On November 9, we arrive at the Scorpio New Moon, with the Sun and Moon meeting at 16°53′ Scorpio. After weeks of Venus and Mercury retrograde drawing us into Scorpio’s underworld, we find ourselves at a powerful threshold. Here, in the very depths we’ve been navigating, the seeds of rebirth are stirring. What began as a descent into the shadows now holds the possibility of emerging forever changed.
The Phoenix is beginning to stir.
The Things We Cannot Unsee
Venus began her retrograde descent on October 3 in Scorpio, stirring our deepest desires, fears, attachments, and emotional entanglements. Following her October 23 Star Point, she retraced her steps into Libra, bringing those underworld revelations directly into our relationships.
Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde in Scorpio has been digging through the archives of our psyche, unearthing unfinished business and truths that may have been hiding beneath the floorboards for years.
Scorpio has little patience for the elaborate costumes we dress our fears in. Its medicine is radical honesty, particularly with ourselves. It’s one thing to recognize another person’s shadow and quite another to catch ourselves projecting our own.
Carl Jung understood this beautifully when he wrote:
“When an inner situation is not made conscious, it happens outside, as fate.”
What we refuse to acknowledge within ourselves doesn’t simply disappear. It finds ways to express itself through our patterns, projections, relationships, and recurring experiences.
And once we’ve seen these patterns clearly, we cannot simply unsee them.
For some, this journey may bring necessary endings. For others, it may become the catalyst for extraordinary healing and deeper intimacy. When two people are willing to face their shadows, pull the weeds of resentment and projection, and take responsibility for their own wounds, relationships can undergo a beautiful alchemical transformation.
Sometimes what needs to die isn’t the relationship, but the unconscious patterns that have been suffocating the love.
The Phoenix and the Choice Before Us
The ancient image of the Phoenix rising from the ashes speaks to the deeper invitation of this Scorpio New Moon. Transformation asks something of us. We cannot carry every old identity, defense mechanism, and inherited belief into the next expression of ourselves.
Like the serpent shedding its skin, we eventually reach a point where what once protected us begins to restrict our growth, and sometimes worse, sabotages our best intentions.
Mars approaching Jupiter in Leo, both aligning with the South Node, adds considerable fire and karmic intensity to this New Moon. The South Node represents the familiar territory of our past, including unconscious patterns that evolutionary astrology associates with past lives and ancestral conditioning passed down through generations. Old wounds around pride, recognition, power, and the need to be right may rise to the surface, asking us to recognize where we’re still acting out stories that began long before this lifetime.
There is a world of difference between standing in our power and standing guard over our wounds. Perhaps we’re being given another opportunity to break the cycle rather than repeat it.
Are we willing to release the old skin, or will we continue trying to squeeze ourselves back into something we’ve already outgrown?
And this extends beyond our relationships. Venus also governs finances, values, and material security. With so much uncertainty in the collective atmosphere, fears around scarcity, resources, and survival may be surfacing. Scorpio invites us to examine where fear has been making our decisions and to cultivate a more conscious relationship with what truly sustains us.
The Threshold of 2027: The Sleeping Phoenix
There is another layer to this transformation that I find particularly compelling.
In Human Design and the Gene Keys teachings, 2027 marks the beginning of the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, a major shift in the collective evolutionary cycle associated with individual empowerment, emotional awakening, and a predicted mutation of human consciousness.
Richard Rudd’s teachings around the 55th Gene Key describe a movement from the Shadow of Victimization toward the Gift of Freedom. This prophecy speaks of a transformation in our emotional nature, symbolized as a mutation within the solar plexus, opening the possibility of an entirely different relationship with consciousness.
Whether we understand this as a literal evolutionary prophecy or a powerful spiritual metaphor, the message is worth contemplating.
We are approaching the bifurcation in human consciousness, a crossroads between continuing to live through unconscious conditioning or beginning to take responsibility for what we create.
The shadows we refuse to examine today may become the very patterns that make tomorrow feel increasingly difficult. But the more willing we are to face ourselves, the less power those unconscious patterns have over our choices.
The preparation for a New Earth has less to do with escaping the old world and more to do with releasing the old programming within ourselves.
Emerging From the Underworld
On November 13, both Venus and Mercury station direct, signaling a welcome turning point after weeks of introspection and emotional excavation.
Venus still has one final meeting with Pluto, her third square on December 9, before clearing her post-retrograde shadow on December 15. These final weeks offer an opportunity to integrate what we’ve learned and begin making different choices with what we now know.
This Scorpio New Moon is our invitation to plant something new in the rich soil of everything we’ve experienced. Some things may need to be composted, while others are ready to take root and flourish in ways we couldn’t have imagined.
The underworld has shown us our fears, our attachments, our hidden motivations, and perhaps even the places where we’ve been withholding our own love.
Now comes the beautiful and sometimes terrifying freedom of choosing what to do with what we’ve seen.
The Phoenix is born of a fire that shows no mercy, yet leaves its essence untouched.
May we emerge with clearer eyes, softer hearts, and the courage to create something beautiful from everything the darkness has taught us.
