Leo Full Moon at Imbolc: Opening the Eclipse Gate

We arrive at this Leo Full Moon wrapped in the quiet threshold of Imbolc, the ancient cross-quarter moment marking the midpoint between winter and spring. Imbolc is traditionally observed around February 1, when the Sun reaches approximately 13° Aquarius, signaling the subtle turning of the seasonal wheel toward light and renewal.
It is a time associated with first stirrings, not full emergence. Life is waking up beneath the surface, even if very little is visible yet.
It is also, fittingly, Groundhog Day.
In the old lore, we watch to see whether the groundhog sees its shadow. Whether it retreats back underground or steps forward into the light. There is wisdom in this image. Some dream seeds may feel as though they are bursting at the seams, ready to emerge. Others are still resting in the dark, not yet prepared to be seen.
Both are perfect.
Imbolc reminds us that there is no need to rush what is still forming. This is not a moment for judgment or comparison. It is a moment for noticing. For listening. For honoring the intelligence of timing. We are still, in many ways, in dreamtime, where imagination is active and signals are subtle. What wants to be born does not require force. It requires warmth, space, and presence.

The Leo Full Moon peaks on February 1, 2026, with the Moon at 13° Leo, directly opposite the Sun at 13° Aquarius. This exact opposition occurs on the same day as Imbolc, amplifying the sense that we are standing at a true threshold point.
But what compounds the magnitude…is this Full Moon opens the eclipse gate, initiating a six-week window that carries us through the Solar Eclipse on February 17, 2026, and the Lunar Eclipse on March 3, 2026. What is illuminated now unfolds over time. Eclipse seasons compress experience and speed up evolutionary change.
It may be helpful to reflect back to September and October of last year, when the previous eclipse cycle was active. Eclipse themes tend to unfold in chapters, and this moment may feel like a continuation rather than a sudden turn.
This season also marks a major handoff between eclipse cycles. We are approaching the final Virgo eclipse of a nine-year chapter, while stepping into the first Aquarius eclipse cycle in nine years. This signals both completion and initiation happening at once.
Eclipse seasons can feel intense, but their purpose is evolutionary. They shake and wake us where movement is needed.
The Specific Energies of This Leo Full Moon
With the Sun at 13° Aquarius and the Moon at 13° Leo, this Full Moon unfolds within a collective landscape of rising uncertainty and sustained nervous system pressure.
Under this intensity, the shadow of Aquarius can show up as dissociation, emotional distancing, intellectual bypassing, and numbing out. Many people cope by retreating into screens, technology, or constant analysis rather than staying present with what they feel. This is not a personal failure. It is a nervous system response.
At the same time, it is important to acknowledge that digitized consciousness is no longer neutral. We are living in a moment where attention, presence, and even identity are increasingly mediated by technological systems. There is a strong pull toward abstraction and disembodiment. In this sense, there is a very real struggle underway for our capacity to remain human.
This is where polarity matters.
The remedy to the shadow of Aquarius is Leo.
